The Evolving Role of RPM in Cardiology
April 27, 2021
Amit Shah highlights how the concept of RPM (remote patient monitoring) isn’t new but the evolution of it is creating a new and abundant role in the cardiology industry. Before the COVID pandemic the use of RPM was quite infrequent and not a major contributor to the health and advancement of patient health monitoring. However, the pandemic brought more uncertainty into the health industry as more people were isolated and staying home to best meet the demands that their physical health needed for better treatment. The pandemic led to those in the RPM industry to become more creative, more diverse, and more expansive. Shah also points out how he was an advocate for RPM technology evolution from its conception and can see now more openly the broad way in which this industry can grow for both clinical patients and doctors. One of these evolutions is the clinical measurability on a more frequent basis as it can help better assess issues that may arise within the patient’s recovery/treatment. It also allows for a quicker turnaround than the “every three months” of regularly scheduled exams that don’t always evaluate the individual needs of a patient within the examination time.
